BMW X5 (2005)
Last updated on: Feb 04 2012
The German manufacturer introduced the X5 series in 1999 as a mid-size crossover SUV - what it basically signified was the shift (or crossover) from a truck-based SUV frame to a sedan-like body, rather like the new Lexus RX series.
The all-wheel drive is available over a wide range of V8 and petrol inline-engines. In fact at the time of the car's inception, BMW tried to market the X5 series as a SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) rather than a SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) to try and remove the spotlight from its size and girth. The different models which are a part of this series are - 3.0i, 4.4i and 4.8i.
The BMW X5 series includes the V8 engines which power the 4.4i and 4.8i models, with low-range gearing and producing 315 to 355 horsepower.
The 3.0i model encompasses a 6-cylinder inline engine, powered by 225 hp. A closer look at the features of the X5 series reveals the car's finesse in its automatic-levelling rear suspension, beautiful leather upholstery and automatic front and rear obstacle detection. The BMW X5 series also boasts of an adjustable ride-height suspension, a navigation system, and trademark BMW Assist emergency and concierge system.
The 2005 version of BMW X5 was bolstered with a Bluetooth kit, just like other vehicles from the BMW stables. Also added as standard equipment to the BMW X5 in 2005, were Xenon headlamps. Other features of the car which stand out are its fuel economy (cheap fuel expenses in comparison to other cars in its class), excellent handling, and its comfort and space with extra cargo room.
The previous years' models of X5 were benefited by the takeover of Land Rover. The cheapest deals for the cars would be available on the internet, or in a winning bid for the car at an auction.
