Audi TT 2001 Model
Last updated on: Aug 01 2010
First launched in 1998 as a coupe and as a roadster just a year later, the Audi TT has proved to be one of the most significant models in the entire Audi lineup. A distinctively yet very attractively styled mid-size coupe, the Audi TT has been popular in the automotive world for being one of the most practical yet enjoyably drivable cars of its class of which performance can give quite a competition even to some supercars. While it is already in its 2nd generation, the 1st has always set a very high benchmark and is not far off from the new TT.
Before 2003, all Audi TTs came with a 1.8 liter turbo engine which produces either 180 or 225bhp depending on the variant. TTs of either engine variants reach the 60mph mark in respectable times of 7.4 and 6.4 seconds respectively with the 180bhp TT having a top speed of 140mph while the 225bhp TT tops out at 11mph more. Both of these earlier variants come with all wheel drive which allows the car to conquer corners very tidily despite having a slightly harsh suspension at times.
Audi TTs produced in 2001 are very much the same as the last ones to roll out of the factory of its generation in 2006 as the only differences in the later models are a new 3.2 liter V6 engine option as well as DSG gearboxes which although enhances the drivability of the car, does not totally change what the TT is in actual fact. However, these upgrades do cost and are reasons as to why used 2001 models are cheaper than the later models especially those after 2003.
Because of these lower prices, the 2001 Audi TT is a cheap yet great buy as this model was acclaimed for its performance and for what the car is itself by many automotive journalists and magazines before Audi introduced DSG in this model.
Nowadays, there are many auctions available for prospective buyers to search for the cheapest buys and one such auction website which actually specifies its range of auction items to Audi cars from the TT to Audi’s latest supercar, the R8, is audiauctions.com where starting bids for a 2001 TT can go as low as below US$10,000; a great car at an even greater price indeed.
