Honda Civic (2006)
Last updated on: Jan 06 2009
The Japanese car company introduced the Honda Civic in 1972 as a two door coupe, with the intentions of producing a compact car to fill the niche of an economic yet luxurious car worldwide – and it has been successful at most levels. The 2006 Honda Civic was the result of a redesigned model, earmarking the start of the eighth generation for the Honda Civic.
The eighth generation body style includes a two door coupe (FG1 / FG2), a three door hatchback (FN1 / FN2 / FN3), a four door sedan (FA1 / FA3 / FA4 / FA5 / FD1 / FD2 / FD3 / FD4) and a five door hatchback (FK1 / FK2 / FK3). The car is based on the FF layout.
All the models of the Honda Civic have certain standard features which include power windows, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and up to six side or curtain air bags. ULEV-2 (Ultra Low Emission Vehicle) certification is something which is in the kitty of the 2006 model and the cars of this model contain a more powerful 1.8 litre engine than their 2005 counterparts while fuel economy is almost the same as before.
Earlier, models of the Honda Civic were built with a crude heater, plastic trim that was foam-cushioned, two-speed wipers, an AM radio and painted steel rims with a chromed wheel nut cap. Now, the focus has shifted more towards luxury with the advent of optional air conditioning, navigation that is satellite linked, power locks, a manual six-speed transmission, leather upholstery and power windows. The Honda Civic has always enjoyed a reputation as being a fuel-efficient vehicle, reliable and environmentally friendly and more recent versions have also become renowned for their sportiness and high performance.
Honda Civic has had a meteoric rise up the popularity charts in recent years, and it provides not only a cheaper but more financially viable option, for even the cheapest of cars bought at low-price auctions cannot compete with the Civic for its sheer combination of performance with fuel economy.
