Last updated on: Aug 01 2010
The Honda Pilot is one of the newest lines of the giant Japanese manufacturer – the Pilot was launched in 2002. Fully designed and built by Honda, the Pilot is a mid-size SUV with a front engine body layout with four wheel drive. The Honda Pilot was aimed at the consumer market of the United States of America, where there was quite a demand for SUVs. The Pilot was designed keeping the demands of passenger space, overall size and towing capacity in mind. Instantly, the Honda Pilot became a best-seller. Although the Pilot is sold only in select locations as of now, it is sure to hit distant shores sooner rather than later.
The Honda Pilot has a 3.5 litre SOHC, 24 valve VTEC V6 engine, made of an aluminium alloy. The engine generates power up to 240 HP and a torque of 242 lb-ft. The SUV is equipped with a five speed automatic transmission, and it takes only 7.6 seconds to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour. The SUV’s fuel efficiency is about 16 miles to the gallon within the city and 22 MPG on the open road, complimenting the fuel capacity of 20.4 gallons. The towing capacity of the Pilot is an impressive 4500 pounds.

The four wheel drive system employed in the Honda Pilot is the Variable Torque Management or the 4 WD (VTM-4), which delivers power under acceleration and on detection of slipping to all the four wheels. The design of the Pilot is equally impressive - the seats are comfortable and the rear ones are capable of being folded to make room for cargo.
It goes without saying that the Honda Pilot is worth a buy – whether you can manage a cheap bargain or not. However, the cheapest options would be available on the internet through auctions.
