Mercedes Benz SL-Class (2006)
Last updated on: Aug 01 2010
If there is any car that can make you miss a breath and fill you with envy when you see another person driving one, then it's bound to be a Mercedes Benz. It’s the power of German engineering and styling that has given this car the cult status it enjoys worldwide.
The SL class is a model from this very stable and the SL stands for "sport light". The world has been a witness to five design generations of this car since its launch in 1954. The 2006 model uses an R230 as its base model. It has two engine configurations; the V8 and the V12. The V8 is available as a 5.5 litre 382hp (285 kW) one and a 5.4 litre 510 hp (380 kW) one. The V12 is also available in two separate sizes, one being the 5.5 litre 510 hp (380kW) and other being the 6.0 litre 604 hp (450 kW). It has a five and seven speed automatic gear transmission system.
The other features of the car include an aluminium hardtop which is retractable in 16 seconds, a sense-tronic brake control system, active body control suspension and heated and ventilated multi contour seats. When it comes to style there is nothing that needs to be said - the name Mercedes says it all. It is an elegantly stylish car with very liberal use of leather in the interiors. The seats are very comfortable and make driving a very pleasurable experience. The SL class has won many awards for its style including the much coveted “Most technologically advanced car of the year” award by AutoCar magazine and CNBC TV. It has also won the award for “The Best designed Car” again given by AutoCar magazine and CNBC TV.
The car is not cheap but the price is nothing compared to the features available and the brand name. Though cheap deals may be available for this car, the cheapest ones can be made through auctions only.
