S class has been in production for almost 50 years and has always provided the highest levels of performance, luxury and power; never disappointing even once. The latest model in the S class series is the W221 S-class launched in 2007.

It is the second generation S class to be produced solely in sedan style as compared to the two door coupe available in 1998, also known as CL-class.

It was launched at the Frankfurt motor show. It is slightly bigger than the other models of S-class and has an appearance very similar to the Maybach. It has a plethora of engines to choose from including 3.5 litre V6 which gives 268 bhp , a 4.6 litre, 335 bhp V8 or the 5.5 litre, 383 bhp V8.

It is also available in diesel variety with 3.0 litre turbo charged engine. One of the notable features of this car is the return of twin charged V12 engines in W221. It has a seven-speed automatic transmission generally, except for in the V12 engine. Although the car weighs around 2250 kilograms and is slightly on the heavy side, it still manages to produce enough power to reach 0 to 100 kph in just 4.4 seconds.

If safety is one of your main concerns, then the S-class doesn’t disappoint here either. It was one of the first cars to incorporate air bags and anti-lock breaking systems. Equipped with an infra-red night vision feature to improve visibility whilst driving at night , the S-class is labelled as one of the safest cars on the road by the Road Statistics Department in the U.K.

The car is priced at about $87000 but through motor auctions it can be bought at slightly cheaper prices thus making it more affordable. Some of the cheapest models have been made available through these auctions.
