Last updated on: Feb 04 2012
The Jetta was launched by Volkswagen in 1979. It was launched with the primary aim of targeting the North American consumers who were more inclined towards sedans than any other type of car. The name of the car, like other cars of Volkswagen is derived from winds. This one is named after the Jet winds.
The Jetta has spanned over five generations and the 2008 model is part of the fifth generation. The car is available with both petrol and diesel engine. The petrol is a 2.5 litre 150 hp (110 kW) one while the diesel engine is a 2.0 litre TDI 170 hp (125 kW) one. The car comes with standard five speed manual gear transmission system and optional six speed manual a well as automatic transmission system.
The Jetta comes loaded with features and gadgets. The body is made from extensive high strength steel. It has an impact absorbing bumper which gives in slightly in the event of collision with a pedestrian thus reducing chance of serious injury. The car includes side curtain protection, rear side airbags, an electronic stability system and an anti slip regulation. It also has a first time seen electro-mechanical steering system. The car also has climate control and halogen lamps and LED’s have been used in place of tail lights. The car uses a unique combination of both turbocharger and supercharger in its engines. This drastically increases the power output of the car but is rather a guzzler when it comes to fuel efficiency.
When it comes to safety, the car is one of the safest cars. It got very high recommendations from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety and with strong steel and rear airbags this car is one of the safest to drive around. The price of the car is pretty cheap but cheapest deals can be made through auctions.
